Burn Time
Most candles are
designed to burn just over one hour per inch in
diameter. For example, a three inch pillar candle
should be burned for about 3-4 hours per use. If a
candle is burned for periods less than what is
recommended, the candle will begin to
"tunnel"--burning a tunnel down the center leaving
much of the wax unused.
Burning candles longer
than the recommended burn time is unsafe. Candles in
glass containers may super-heat the glass and cause
it to shatter. Pillar candles may become unstable
and spill over. Make sure that you burn your candles
for the recommended burn time for maximum enjoyment
and safety.
Wick Length
Keep wicks trimmed to
about 1/4 inch.
Uneven Burning
If your candle starts
to burn too much on one side, adjust the wick or
check for drafts. Pure cotton wicks are not as rigid
as metal-core wicks, so they may need to be adjusted
occasionally.
Smoke
Any candle flame can
smoke if the flame is not burning efficiently. Even
essential oils can cause some smoke. Bliss candles
will not smoke if you take proper care of the wicks.
If you see smoke, it
is either because the wick is too long, or because
the candle is in a draft. Because soy wax burns
slower than paraffin, we must use thicker wicks to
melt the wax to the edge. Because of this, the wick
needs to be trimmed occasionally while burning--if
untrimmed, the candle may smoke.
General Safety
Always burn candles in
approved containers, away from children and pets.
Never leave a candle unsupervised. |
